Cleanbreathe workshop for air pollution sensor kits

11th of March 2023

As part of the Cleanbreathe project, a workshop for sensor building and deployment was organized at the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje on 11.03.2023. During the workshop, representatives from the Cleanbreathe project, the Faculty, the O2 coalition, the AirCare app, the Pulse.eco and the laboratory for Ecoinformatics, introduced themselves to the participants and presented their ongoing development.

The participants at the workshop were provided with parts for building and setting up an air pollution measurement sensor kit that was designed by Pulse.eco and updated for the needs of the Cleanbreathe project. The participants were given a short introduction to the parts, the conditions for best setup of the sensors and a detailed hands-on instruction on how to build the sensor. Each participant built their own sensor which was then taken in their homes and connected to the pulse.eco network.

Before departure, each of the participants took their sensor to the Ecoinformatics lab and compared the sensor measurements with the air pointer sensor for particle pollution measurement. Each sensor was validated for accuracy and calibrated using the much more expensive sensor available at the lab.

The participants learned a lot about air pollution, how we can measure it and how we can contribute to the society awareness for the air pollution problem.
